DO YOU WANT TO BE A GHOSTBUSTER? CHOOSING THE RIGHT UNI FOR YOU.

Do you want to be a Ghostbuster? – Choosing the perfect university for you.

Obviously this is not an ad for a Ghostbusters job however, if you're interested Coventry University offers a 'Psychology of Exceptional Human Experiences' course, number 1 in our top 5 weirdest university courses.
In a few months you will endure weeks of confusion attempting find the perfect university for yourself, as well as the dreaded threat of exams... use this article as advice that will help choosing a university that suits you perfectly. There are at the end of the day many factors that need to be established, and to be perfectly honest the nightlife is one of those high factors.

If you're planning on investing a mere £50,000* on your life, you might as well make sure that every single box is ticked right? Including the nightlife, of course the subject you want to study, finance, as well as future plans – connections between the university and possible job opportunities all needs to be considered.

RANKINGS - With over 570,000 of you applying to university last years, numbers are forever increasing and popular demand for those in the top rankings, including Oxford, Cambridge, St. Andrews, Imperial College London and London school of economics. Taking these into account are obviously very strategic for the best opportunity at higher education, but just simply because they are in the top ranks doesn't necessarily mean they are best for you. For more information on university rankings try www.thecompleteuniversityguide.co.uk

THE TOP TEN COURSES - Research shows that Britain's top most popular university courses are (1-10) Law, Design studies, Psychology, Business and Management, Computer science, English studies, Medicine, Sport science and Social work. From my own research in a poll of 30 people I asked, the majority matched up with the most popular courses, however many want to study geography and teaching, subjects that are not on the most popular top 10.
When choosing a university the best way would be to form sub-categories, for example firstly choose the subject you wish to study. Secondly, as I mentioned just because a university is in a high ranking doesn't necessarily mean that for your particular subject it's the best university to go to.

UCAS – UCAS points are designed to divide universities to match your academic ability, each grade you are given at A level equals to a certain score that are all calculated to give you a ucas score that you can use to find suitable universities. Obviously universities in the high rankings such as Oxford and Cambridge that are prestigious schools have the highest entry requirements. Be realistic to choosing a university that you will fit comfortably in with and that grades are actually achievable. For more Information  www.UCAS.co.uk.

FINANCE - Just because these are in the top 10 doesn't mean that anywhere else you look will have no nightlife what so ever, and it's definitely not just about the nightlife that needs to be considered. With a good night out comes money and without sufficient finance there's no chance of a good night on the 'town'. Firstly, unless you have enough money to live in the best part of town and support yourself financially at university, then you also have to consider job vacancies in the area and being aware that living costs in certain areas cost more than others.

THE TOP TEN CITIES FOR UNIVERSITY NIGHTLIFE
- As shallow as it may be, choosing a university with a nightlife for most of you is a must. According MSN the top 10 university cities for nightlife conclude; 1. Newcastle, the scene for new MTV show "Geordie shore" a vibrant city bursting at the seams with outrageous nightlife to meet the needs of every new student. Follow Edinburgh, and Brighton. Fourth is Liverpool, fifth Glasgow, continuing with Manchester, Bristol, Aberystwyth, Cambridge and Lampeter.

Applying for a university placement is a very personal experience, and many factors must be considered however with enough thought and research everyone can find the perfect place for themselves whether it's down south in Brighton or far up north in rural Scotland. Consider the information here on nightlife rankings if that's what your after, or advice on the top 5 universities for the specific subjects mentioned.
And remember that college tutors and teachers are always available to help with any questions you may have.
