Rags to riches!
Ellie Goulding's road to success
With arena sell out tours and an album selling over 500,000 copies, multi award winning Ellie Goulding goes from rags to riches in the space of two years: Ellie seems to be making all the right choices to get her voice heard all over the world.
After having her first sell out tour Ellie produced her first album "Lights" in August 2009 which reached an amazing first spot on the UK album chart, Its singles, "Starry Eyed", "Guns and Horses", and "The Writer" peaked at numbers 4, 26, and 19 respectively. In August 2010, Ellie released a second extended play, "Run into the Light", a remixed version of Lights; this album was supported surprisingly by Nike! As Ellie is a very keen runner and they wanted to produce a running soundtrack in an effort to get Ellie Goulding's music taken up by the National Running Subculture.
In September 2009 Ellie signed a record deal with "Polydor Records" where she made her debut single "Under the sheets", which was peaking outside the UK Top 40! In 2009 she toured the UK having a sell out tour where her single "Wish I stayed" reached single of the week in 2009.
Elena Jane Goulding "Ellie Goulding" was born on December 30th 1986 and was raised in Hereford along with her brothers and sisters, at the age of nine Ellie's stardom began when she learnt to play the clarinet and write songs, this was her passion for many years until she learnt to play the guitar at the age of fourteen, this was where her family and friends realised how good Ellie was at song writing and performing, throughout her college years Ellie won a huge number of talent shows proving herself to be a huge hit with her college.
Ellie studied at Kent University where she studied drama, she thought this would help her stage performance, she got exposed to electronic music and then she developed her sound with the help of Frankmusik on the track "Wish I Stayed", and Starsmith. After spending two years at Kent, Ellie was advised to take a gap year to pursue singing and moved to West London.
In 2010, Lights was re-released as Bright Lights, with six new tracks added, however this was scrapped due to allow her cover of Elton John's "Your song" to be released which reached number two in the UK charts and is the highest chart single to date! And this song reached the charts in European countries in 2011.
During her career Ellie has achieved a number of awards including "BBC Sound of the year", "Critics Choice" at the Brit awards in 2010 and in 2011 Ellie took the Pandora Newcomer of the year at the 2011 Glamour awards.
The Telegraph stated "Ellie Goulding as an extraordinary voice, a fluttery high vibrato, multi-tracked to magical effect on compact pop songs of angst and romance".
Ellie is currently concentrating on her US tour and then returning to the UK to complete another tour, you will be able to see her on Saturday 25th June in Weybridge, Friday 8th July in Canterbury and Friday 15th July in London.
